Cube Addition – Bellevue, WA

Cube AdditionDesigned: 1998          Completed: 1999

An addition and renovation to a single family home on tree-filled suburban site. A new Entrance and study as well as remodeled Kitchen and Master Bathroom .

A simple cube inserted to mark entrance, contain the new study above and allow natural light into the space. Direct light pours through the gazing that wraps the object, reflecting off the surfaces and enlivening the entry sequence and ascension up to the second floor.

Simple materials gently manipulated to juxtapose rigorous rectilinear geometries and delimited interior space with curvilinear forms and indeterminate indoor-outdoor space. A solid object used to influence the circulation of light and guests of the owner. At the entry level, curved forms and clear glass create ambiguous spatial conditions and permit the landscape access into the home. Simple, clearly articulated volumes and materials shape and direct light and circulation on the second floor.
