Laguna Residence – San Francisco, CA

Laguna Residence - CirculationDesigned: 2001          Built: 2002

A new residential interior in a historic brick structure in San Francisco. Cleaning and restoring the existing materials and surfaces in order to frame the modern interior. Living activities organized around static and dynamic conditions. Entrance, Bath and Kitchen carefully positioned as fixed nodes of activity. Sleeping, eating, entertaining, relaxing, reading, and working distributed throughout and in between.

The fixed activities are enclosed, connected to the plumbing, ventilation and power systems that they require. The remaining living activities are open, flexible, and constantly adapted to changing light conditions, weather, visitors and mood. The dialogue between the textured brick and wood of the existing structure and the clean white enclosures accentuate the perception of a single space activated by dynamic views and variations of space.
